The EGIR Study Group promotes research on insulin resistance and its role in diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
This website provides access to EGIR’s scientific activities, including webinars, conferences, collaborations, and publications. Members and interested researchers can have access past programs, abstracts, and recorded presentations, and to share new research through EGIR initiatives.
EGIR was established in the mid-1990s by investigators from 21 European clinical research centres who pooled data on in vivo insulin action in non-diabetic, normotensive individuals. Insulin sensitivity was measured using the hyperinsulinaemic–euglycaemic clamp, the gold standard for assessing insulin resistance, resulting in the world’s largest insulin clamp database. In 2001, the RISC study (Relationship between Insulin Sensitivity and Cardiovascular Disease) was funded under the EU 5th Framework Programme.
EGIR is governed by a Steering Committee, with scientific activities coordinated by a Project Management Board.
Researchers and clinicians with an interest in insulin resistance, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are invited to join the EGIR Study Group.
EGIR membership provides access to scientific meetings and webinars, collaborative research opportunities, and EGIR-related publications and study initiatives.
